Here's some photo's submitted by a resident who happened across this small mess on his own street just days ago, the one on the bottom was discovered when FPL workers mowed their easement.
Where does it Happen?: Everywhere!
There are empty lots on most streets and these are the primary targets. Also the areas at the ends of streets where they can't be seen at night. These people are usually in a hurry to "Dump & Run" and prefer the cover of darkness. The daylight theives are also at work! They have been caught digging up and stealing dirt or fill from empty lots and reselling it!
Know your neighbors: Seems easy enough?
Most of us live on very long streets and even those that have lived here for some time, may have yet to actually meet everyone on the street! So get to know your neighbors vehicles and pay attention to a pickup or dump truck loaded with stuff going down your street. Even walk out to see where its stopping, if it looks suspicious, call the police or the number below and report it. The more pressure we apply to these illegal dumpers the quicker it will slow down and hopefully stop.
Know What to do: Don't Touch!
#1 As much as everyone will appreciate your involvement, don't be a hero! If you see or suspect illegal dumping is taking place, do not confront them. Call 911 and let the authorities handle them. Write down everything you can remember and give these descriptions to the police. Remember THESE ARE CRIMINALS COMMITING A CRIMINAL ACT, and they would prefer not to be seen or caught, so do not approach them.
#2 Do not touch or approach any spilled chemicals or liquids. Just because it says its a 20 pound bucket of kitty litter, don't believe it. If it was anything harmless or useful, it would not have been dumped, So leave the lid on and leave it alone. If you see an unknown fluid leaking onto the ground, call pollution control and report it! Let the Hazardous Materials experts handle it because there could also be toxic fumes.
#3 If you come across dumpings of construction debris or other seemingly non toxic or at least not immediately dangerous debris (trees/limbs etc..) call the number above to report it.
For dumping of items such as yard waste and nuisance litter, call Collier County Code Enforcement Department at 239-252-2440.
DO NOT CONFRONT PERPETRATORS!
If you observe dumping or evidence of dumping, especially in proximity to water bodies or drainage features call Collier County Pollution Control and Prevention Department at 239-732-2502.
Collier County Ordinances require a permit for door-to-door solicitations. If anyone comes to your door asking for scrap metal ask to see their permit. If not call the Collier County Sheriffs Substation

The Estates Community is better than this!
We moved here to be away from the urban mess.
Stop throwing trash out of the window as you drive
through our rural area.
If you see someone doing it, take down their
licence plate number (don't confront them) and report it.
The same goes for illegal dumping.
It has to be a team effort!

This page is dedicated to Citizen Awareness. There are elements both from within and outside the Estates Community that do not care to respect others or the natural environment which supports the various wildlife and quality of life we all enjoy. Some of their actions can endanger the future of creatures large & small including humans. The dumping of toxic chemicals onto the ground and into our waterways, which sustain the wildlife and reach into the aquifer, threatens everyone. Their actions are most likely driven by a combination of greed, ignorance and opportunity.
Below are some ways you and your neighbors can help identify and correct illegal and toxic dumping in the Estates.
