A New I-75 Interchange: Opportunities and Challenges
Citizens;
Planning and studies are currently under way to investigate the feasibility of a new I-75 Interchange for eastern Collier County. Public support for a new interchange is great and Golden Gate Estates Area residents have long supported the idea. A new interchange is needed for many reasons.
Growth projections estimate that approximately 500,000 people will live in eastern Collier County by 2050 with over 380,000 of these in Ave Maria, the proposed town of Big Cypress, and other future communities in the Rural Land Stewardship Area (RLSA). It is clear that a new I-75 interchange is needed, not only for the use and safety of the current residents of Golden Gate Estates, but also for the future growth of homes and businesses in the RLSA and eastern Collier. It may well prove to be the most
important road project in the history of Collier County.
It is also an extremely complex project with many issues, great impacts, and tremendous costs. In order to provide information to citizens, property owners, and the general public on this important issue, the attached document has been prepared. In it the reader will find information and
perspective that has not been presented at public meetings or made readily available by elected officials or the Collier County local government.
The purpose of this document is to facilitate a comprehensive review and discussion of all the issues, obstacles, and opportunities regarding the planning and construction of a new I-75 Interchange and the massive new road corridor that will be required. Only through open communication and the full cooperation of many groups, interests, and public agencies, will we be able to overcome the numerous obstacles to this project. We must come together to produce the very best Interchange and Road Corridor design to serve Golden Gate Estates, eastern Collier, and the taxpayers of Collier County. We encourage all citizens to become informed and engaged in the
planning of this important project.
